Yikes! I haven't updated this in a while. Last month, my UBC Womens Ultimate team wrapped up the season by competing at the USA Ultimate College Championships in Boulder, Colorado. We finished at 11th place which was definitely not as high as we wanted but nonetheless, probably the most competitive UBC team I have played with in the last few years. When the team was determined and believed in winning, I saw extreme shutdown defence leaving the opposition with no options available. In one of my our pool play games against Michigan, we were down 11-13 only to storm back to win 15-13. While it can be disappointing to not do as well as I hope, it's even worse when you don't learn anything out of it. There are so many ways to improve whether it means being more fit, working on the throws, improving commitment and much more. As of this Summer, I'm taking it easy to enjoy other aspects of life outside of Ultimate. For once, I feel so much more free!
I started my new Web Developer internship at DemonWare in May. So far, I have really enjoyed working at this company. While previously I got to know a bit of Python and Django with the UCOSP term I did with ReviewBoard, I am getting a second chance to spend 4 months learning more about web development. I feel it very refreshing to be working on web technologies as oppose to all the software applications I am used to writing in school. Nonetheless, I am learning lots at work and I hope to keep working hard in order to make the most out of my time there. For students or grads, they're hiring! I found out in the past few months or so that there are lots of opportunities to learn or take university classes online. Did you ever had trouble fitting some courses you want to take in your schedule or you were in a rush to graduate? Well, this is for you! Udacity is made by the same professor who did the Intro to AI at Stanford. Udacity is great in a way while it lets you do the course at your own pace and have lots of hands on exercises. The course is not so much about lectures but consist of many short videos with many quizzes and exercises (if you would like to complete them). Couresa (or http://www.class-central.com/) is the other one. Class Central is more about providing course lecture videos from different universities in the US (ex: Stanford, Princeton etc...). They're both good in their own ways and I really recommend to check them out!
